All That You Should Know About Spirit B-2 Fighter Jet And Stealth Technology

Introduction:

The Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit, also known as the Stealth Bomber is an American super advanced fighter jet, designed for penetrating dense anti-aircraft defenses. It is a heavy penetration strategic bomber that is designed for two. B-2 is the only acknowledged aircraft that has the capacity to carry air-to-surface standoff weapons in a stealth configuration. The bomber functions wide enough to deploy both conventional and nuclear weapons.

What is Stealth technology and how it works?

During the late 70’s military aircraft designers introduced a new technology to the world that can avoid missiles and interceptors, and named it ‘stealth.’ The concept behind stealth aircraft is that it will absorb signals. It absorbs so much so that only a meager quantum of the signal reflected back to the radar unit. A system that completely functions with the help of radar signals cannot even get close to the aircraft that works with stealth technology. They are also designed to avoid various other technologies that are used for detection such as radar, infrared, visible light, radio-frequency, spectrum and audio.

Stealth technology in Global Hands:

Stealth technology is the prime thing behind this fighter jet. For more than two decades the US Airforce had a monopoly on the radar-evading technology and had a huge advantage over any rival. The fighters and bombers enabled with the stealth technology won wars and helped the US gain influence across the globe. Then something unanticipated happened. The stealth technology crossed the American Borders. It reached the hands of other global powers like Russia, China, and many other countries. The US has lost its Stealth Monopoly. Though the planes are far better in the American Military Base when compared to other countries, America is not alone now.

The only consolation was that these countries were talking only about prototypes and not one of them launched a fighter jet with stealth technology for real. However, US had to swallow its pride and accept that sooner or later ‘Stealth’ will be a global technology. The truth came hitting hard in the year 2010 when Russia made its debut launch, followed by China at the end of the same year. Countries like India, Japan, and Korea, are also lining up to prove that the US is now not the only player in the field. Every single day the United States is working really hard to keep up its position as far as global power is concerned.

B-21 vs. B-2

In the year 2016, the US Airforce came out revealing the concept and design of the shadowy Northrop Grumman B-21 long range striker bomb. So what’s new about this new war plane?

  • Northrop Grumman B-12 looks similar to the B-2 version, but there are slight modifications.
  • The redesign of the plane caused a decrease in payload and range. However, as far as the stealth design aspect is concerned, B-21 supersedes B-2 and takes Stealth technology to a new level.
  • B-2 is going to become less survivable, and the launch of B-21, touted as the vintage model, will save the nation’s pride.
